WEEK FOUR

LECTURE

Name two industries that have given us digital tools?
Aeronomics and animation.

What did the camera freeze? How do we see?
Photography has frozen the way we create images and frozen into a simple perspectival idea.

How did the computer aid Wes Jones to twist his building?
The computer aid helped generate the horizontal and vertical site first, It then helped develop different versions and possibilities of his building.

What is a Blob according to Preston Scott Cohen?
A blob is ‘an exact, yet rigorous’ form . It is not a randomly formed curve but is a carefully constructed family of curves. Zit is Distinct, rarefield, articulate and outside of any norm.

How did they make early 'blob' buildings?
They made early ‘blob’ buildings through trial and error. They made them to use very classical geometric elements and look at the intersections of the forms.

What do continuous and sinuous forms support?
They both support flow.

What is "an exact yet rigorous" form?
A technical term from philosophy for a blob.

What is morphoology?
The theory of morphology in the context of architecture and engineering is based on the two-dimensional and three-dimensional symmetries. These studies are based on mathematical theories of symmetry, and the use of these shapes and geometries in the process of planning buildings and structures.

What are some of the new ideas/nontraditional things the computer has enabled?
It has enabled us to fix and develop further.

What is mass customization?
Mass customization, in marketing, manufacturing, call centres and management, is the use of flexible computer-aided manufacturing systems to produce custom output.

What is the Digital box today?
The digital box today is logic and manufacturing.

What will be your new ways of thinking in Architecture?
Continuous debating, influence and inspiration.
